Our Approach

Welcome to Ohabei Shalom

“Be as the disciples of Aaron, loving peace and pursuing peace.”
     –Pirke Avot 1:12

Temple Ohabei Shalom (“lovers of peace”) has resided at the center of Jewish Boston since our founding, as the first synagogue in Massachusetts, in 1842.We are an urban synagogue, affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism with a truly diverse membership. We strive to create a welcoming environment for interfaith families as well as gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered members.  Our building is located on the subway line just outside of downtown Boston, and the dome that houses our magnificent sanctuary can be seen for miles. Under that dome you will connect with a vibrant community exemplifying the best of Judaism in the 21st century, one dedicated to learning, bettering the world, and seeking God.

Ohabei Shalom offers its congregants a place to be a part of the rich tapestry of religious life and a place they truly feel is their spiritual home. We are a community that strives to support and nourish our congregants along their Jewish journey.
